Our Story

As a result of many labors of devoted gaming fandom and creative zeal over the course of more than a decade, the creators behind Vorpal Press have previously published an edition of the Against the Dead role-playing game (and a supplement - Against the Dead: Kicking and Screaming) using the Open Game License and d20 Modern SRD.

Now, Vorpal Press is spreading its wings with the introduction of a new system - Mighty d4. The Mighty d4 System is a skills-based gaming engine in which players build every character organically - unfettered by set classes or fixed lines of advancement. Each character is created by assigning Resolution Dice to skills (all dice, of course, being d4s) and selecting Advancements that represent trained expertise and earned experience and Mysteries that incorporate supernatural or unexplainable abilities to give the character their unique traits and techniques to survive adventures.

The Mighty d4 System is being launched with two distinct and exciting titles : Forth to Frontier, which presents a setting of the mythic American West as if it were founded by settlers from an old world of classic fantasy, and a new edition of Against the Dead in which characters from ordinary backgrounds in the modern world are suddenly thrust into a reality gone mad by the sudden rise of the zombie menace.

Forth to Frontier, its companion title the Forth to Frontier Field Guide, and Against the Dead (Mighty d4 Edition) are all professionally illustrated books that have been meticulously edited and play-tested over many hundreds of hours. Forth to Frontier and Against the Dead (Mighty d4 Edition) are complete game systems with all the rules you need to play and run endless adventures and campaigns in their detail-rich worlds. The Forth to Frontier Field Guide contains over 375 monsters developed using the systems presented in the Core Rulebook. Each title is available in hardcover or as downloadable PDFs.
